Vincent van Gogh’s story is one of the most ironic in art history. Today, he is celebrated the world over as one of the most important painters of all time, recognized with sell-out shows, feted museums, and record prices of tens of millions of dollars at auction.

Yet as he was painting the canvases that would subsequently become these sell-out modern masterpieces, van Gogh was battling not only the disinterest of his contemporary audiences but also devastating bouts of mental illness, with episodes of depression and paralyzing anxiety which would eventually claim his life in 1890, when he committed suicide shortly after his 37th birthday.

This comprehensive study of Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) pairs a detailed monograph on his life and art with a complete catalogue of his 871 paintings.

Came in damaged, but good quality

Came in damaged, but good quality
The front cover was scratched like someone tried bending it, and there was a hole at the bottom that tore the cover. The image quality is really nice and has a lot of Vincent's popular works. Good price.

The book was smaller than I would have wanted, but for the price it was worth the sacrifice. It's a top quality book, the photos are sharp, clear and of high quality as well. Lots of information here too. Definitely worth the price.

The book seems like a very nice collection of the paintings and information about Van Gogh; I purchased this as a gift for my boyfriend's mom. Unfortunately it does not ship well, or rather it is not packaged well to ship. I had to order a replacement as the first book jacket's corner got crunched and ripped; Amazon did the replacement at no cost to me, but the replacement came damaged as well - the book jacket was ripped. I ended up getting a copy in person at a nearby Barnes & Noble. A few dollars more, but I wasn't taking a change on another replacement. Books with jackets need to be wrapped in plastic or something so there's less chance of damage during shipping - the jackets slide so easily.

Great book. Very well bound with a nice cover. Text is quite small for my elderly eyes but I love the illustrations. All known works are shown.

Great book for any Van Gogh fan. Has all his painting, stories behind the paintings, and some history on the painter himself. Have not read the whole book, but so far it is very interesting and well written

If you're interested in Van Gogh Then search no more. This is an incredible book. It is aprox 8 by 9 inches wide, but do you really need it bigger? It is 740 pages. It is all high gloss coloured pages. And it has a picture of every single painting he's ever created. I am so happy to have this book
