Excellent survey, adds to the seven marvels as listed during the Hellenistic times as a lot of these additional monuments were not yet known. However I am astonished as the author did not include the Ephpalinios tunnel in Samos, contemporaneous with the Artemision of Ephesos, the former having been a serious rival and as an underground aquaduct in a mountainous terrain an even greater feat of enineering.

One of my ambitions in life is to visit as many of the winders of the Ancient World and also the Natural World. This book offers me an easy reference of places to tick off that I have already visited and informs me of places I may have overlooked otherwise.

Well worth purchasing if you share my ambition

5.0 out of 5 stars A great mix of facts, good stories, great photographs, that you can read right through or dip in and out of!

The book has the places you'd think would be in there (Pyramids, Stonehenge, etc.), but then a few places most of us wouldn't know. And is a book you can read when your brain is tired (which says much for the skills of the author, and the pick-me-up nature of the book). I've read a lot of Justin Pollard's books, and I'm always very impressed.
