Item arrived damaged with the front hardcover severed off from the Book. Poor binding workmanship. Otherwise the dictionary itself has great content, full color plates and original unwhitewashed paintings of original black Israelites [Negroes] and Egyptians [Hamites].

I chose this rating because the Harper's is the most useful and complete that I have ever found. One reviewer called it encyclopedic in nature. I would agree. The editors attempt to not take any popular slant but to have a balanced approach to the work is commendable and gives strength to the scholarship. One reviewer gave this Dictionary a one star rating because it didn't take the word of God as just the word of God. If you are looking for a resource that will simply enhance your own view this one will at least challenge you.

I purchased my first Harper Bible Dictionary while in seminary, in fact it was my third book for my collection (1967). I purchased this volume for my wife and for myself a kindle edition of the Harper/Collins Bible Dictionary on Kindle because of my failing sight.

This dictionary gives sufficient detail to give a reasonable background on each topic without being overly burdened with technical linguistics. Easily accessible for a well-educated layperson. I use the Logos software version and find my research is better rounded out when this dictionary is read in tandem with the the Tyndale Bible Dictionary and the Dictionary of Biblical Imagery.
